HOUSE IN CHESTER SQUARE

BELGRAVIA, LONDON

The brief from the very enlightened client for this project was to liken the present, late Georgian house to an original VW Beetle and his desire was for the new version.

The interior of this Grade II listed building had been gutted in the 1970's and no significant original features remained. Along with the brief from the client was the requirement from the local planning authority to retain and enhance what little remained of the old house - a very difficult job in view of the client's desire for full air-conditioning, underfloor heating and computer network cabling throughout, in other words, all the requirements for modern living.

This was all achieved, but at no small cost and the brief was further extended to include the design of a dining suite to suit the space available in the re-styled house and a partner's desk to complement the cherry-wood lined study.
