Our clients wished, eventually, to retire to this property where they had spent many years reclaiming a very overgrown garden to what was originally the local Manor House. The old house had burned down in 1946 leaving only the old porch and some outside walls which were in mock Gothic style. There was also a small cottage which was the old laundry and had been converted for weekend use.
After long negotiations with the Local Authority and the Planning Inspectorate, a new two bedroomed house was permitted within the confines of the old ruin with the stipulation that it was to be built of reclaimed, local stone to match the old house.
